History
Cal Western
Packaging Corporation is the longest standing small business supplier
of refined and fortified vegetable oils to the USDA, Food for Peace
program and the National School Lunch Program. Established in 1970,
Cal Western Packaging has continually expanded to meet the changing
needs of our customer base. In addition to our largest customer, the
USDA, Cal Western provides packaging services to various retail supply
outlets.
Fortified
vegetable oils are manufactured at our facilities located in Memphis,
TN; Houston, TX and Des Moines, IA. Our Memphis, TN facility also packages
liquid fry, corn and canola oils in a variety of container types including
1 gallon, and 4 litre plastic bottles, as well as 48 oz. PET bottles.
Both our
Memphis, TN and Houston, TX facilities are capable of producing oil
packaged in 1 gallon and 4 litre cans, 20 litre pails, and 208 litre
drums for export. Hydrogenated vegetable shortening is produced in 3
lb. composite cans and in 50 kg. bags at our Des Moines, IA facility.
Our commitment
to quality is evidenced by our TQSA (Total Quality System Analysis)
system in place at each facility. In addition, our Memphis, TN and Des
Moines, IA facilities are certified HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Point) locations. Each Cal Western Packaging location is audited
internally twice each year in addition to an annual audit by the USDA,
as well as an annual HACCP inspection, where applicable.
In keeping
with Cal Western Packaging's goal of continuous improvement and to assure
our customers a quality product, a fully functional analytic laboratory
was added to our Memphis, TN facility in the fall of 2002. This laboratory
is outfitted with the latest quality control instrumentation and test
equipment to run most AOCS and AOAC methods for fortified edible oils
testing. Led by a Quality Manager, the quality personnel have over 20
years of combined instrumentation and wet bench experience. The laboratory
provides technical support and analysis for all Cal Western production
facilities.
Cal Western
has a long established and proven track record in supplying product
to the USDA and commercial vendors. It would be our pleasure to add
you to our list of satisfied customers.
